I enjoy crocheting baby & children's hats because they work up fast and are just so adorable. Unfortunately my children are both too big for them so I mostly make them to order or for craft fairs. The long tailed baby hat always seems to be a big hit. I have always made mine from a pattern I found on Ravelry for only $1.49.
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/long-tailed-baby-elf-hat I love this one and you can make it larger by simply continuing to increase as needed. It's really cute in one color, varigated and in the shown striped pattern. I hope you find it enjoyable to create and share.

My daughter has just become enamored with the 18" doll craze, also known to most as American Girl dolls, although we have the My Life dolls in our home rather than the more expensive brand. My daughter doesn't seem to mind and now that I have created patterns to make clothes for hers, she takes them with her everywhere. I used the existing clothes her doll came in to create my own patterns and today I want to focus on my flare leg jeans for the 18" dolls. I don't always do super fancy finishes on my patterns. I figure the doll doesn't know if the interior of the clothes are a little rough then it is ok. I started with some old jeans that I had in my fabric scrap cupboard. I like to use old jeans because it already has cool seams that you don't need to recreate yourself. I can get two pairs of pre-hemmed jeans from one of my old pairs of jeans. Then you can get two more that you will have to hem the bottoms on as well from the same pair of old jeans. I put the pattern on the fold at the side hem of the jeans and the bottom of the pattern along the bottom of the jean leg to get the preexisting hems. Then if I decide I want pockets I'll cut those in the area between where I cut the jean sides out. See the pictures below to see how to position the patterns to cut the jean parts out. After I have all my parts cut out I sew the hem around the pocket, then position the pocket on the jeans sides so that I have enough room for the top and side hem and sew the pocket on. Once the pockets are on then you can sew the crotch of the jeans together on each side. Then you can pin the leg parts together and sew up and around in one line to finish off the legs. Once the main part of the jeans are together then you can fold over the top hem to make space for the elastic. When you sew the hem over make sure you leave approx. a 1" opening so you can thread through the elastic. I used a safety pin as a needle to get the elastic through the hem and pinned the other end to the jeans so that it didn't pull all the way through. *Be sure to have all the preexisting hems pointing the same way when you fold over the hem so that you don't get the safety pin stuck behind a hem when you are threading it through. Once you have the elastic threaded through then hand sew it together being sure not to twist the elastic inside the hem. With the elastic completely sewn together then you can sew closed the opening. Viola' there you have a completed pair of flare jeans. If you are working on a pair of jeans that don't have a preexisting bottom hem be sure you fold over and sew that hem before assembling the jeans and sewing the crotch area. It will be much easier to do when the pieces are separate. Below are the links to the pdf pattern for you to print. You will need to align the crop marks and tape together the pattern after you print it. If you have any questions feel free to post them in the comments or message me. Please don't copy and sell my pattern, you are welcome to sell any jeans you make from the pattern but please link back to my blog when you use this pattern. Thank You. I was born and raised in Northern New York and still enjoy the extreme weather contrast of each season and there's nothing better than a soft, warm pair of socks on a cold winter night. Lately I've had quite a few orders for these comfy socks. Above are the most recent pair I've made and I love the Red Heart black light tie dye yarn for these.
This pattern I used is from the Crochet magazine from the November 2008 edition. I couldn't find a digital version to link to so I went in search of a similar pattern to link to and this one (below) is pretty much the same. http://www.crochetspot.com/crochet-pattern-easy-adjustable-socks/ Be sure you use the right weight yarn though. The Red Heart yarn I used above is a 4 weight so I had to use the small pattern to get s medium size because the pattern called for a thinner 3 weight yarn. These work up pretty quick and are great for yourself or as a gift. Also if you want them as slippers, you could add fabric paint to the bottoms to make them non-slip. A while back I decided to create my own crochet pattern for a minion hat. I created it because so many people were loving the minion movies and I thought they were super cute creatures as well. I have a child pattern and adult pattern. They can be adjusted to fit specific sizes and you can use double strands of yarn to make it thicker/warmer if you would like to. I have used the same pattern to make the purple minion as well. The photo of that is below. All I added was the yarn hair, funny mouth and teeth. I'm not proficient at writing crochet patterns so if you have any questions please feel free to comment below. Please do not resell my pattern, you are free to sell anything you make from it but please link back to my blog when you do. Thank You.
Another day of sewing was my plans for today when I awoke before my children and enjoyed my breakfast in peace. I decided to make some fleece hats after finding a great tutorial on YouTube that included patterns. I needed to fill some bobbins with the colors I had chosen the night before at the fabric store and found all my bobbins in a tangled mess in my sewing drawer. This prompted me to find a new way to store them.
I cut a small piece of cardboard and found some candy sticks in my kitchen drawers perfect for pegs. I used my heavy duty scissors and cut the sticks into 3/4" lengths an poked holes halfway thru the cardboard in the pattern shown below. Leaving enough room to fit the bobbins in a staggered pattern. I then used hot glue to hold them in place and viola, a bobbin holder. Pretty simple really and works great to hold my bobbins seperate in my sewing drawer. I hope this little idea comes in useful to my sewing followers out there. Keep crafting!😊 I enjoy doing portraits whether it's drawing them or painting them I enjoy capturing people's emotions in art. Last year my cousin lost her beautiful stepdaughter to cancer. I wanted to capture a precious moment in both of their lives. Below is the actual photo as well as the black and white completed drawing. This precious little angel will be greatly missed.
You can support me with a Relay For Life donation to help finish the fight against cancer. http://go.relay.org/4Zjdg I found a great tutorial for making the cutest art smocks for kids. I made a couple for friends and my daughter as well. You just need to use a t-shirt that is the right size to gauge your pattern size. The tutorial I used is on the www.whollykau.com blog. She has lots of other great ideas too. Check out the pictures of my art smock experience.
I have been wanting to get back to my art and I began this drawing a few months ago. I finally spent the time today to finish it up and add some color. My daughter decided to join me and do a little drawing as well. It's nice that my children enjoy creating as much as I do. I plan on entering this piece in the county fair this year. I love to see what other local artists are creating every year. My children enter their artwork as well. We like to make it a family event. I plan to add more progression blogs for future art pieces as well. I have been considering doing the blog thing for a while now. I'm not the best of writers but I think occasionally have some useful information to share. I plan to share crochet & sewing patterns as well as any fun and creative craft projects I find. I'll include links to the pages I find them on as long it's not one of my own patterns. If I create a pattern and share it for free I would appreciate a link to my blog being included when anyone shares them as I will do if I share a free pattern from another blogger. I'm not sure if much will come of it and I'm not sure I will have an abundance of followers but I hope some individuals enjoy it. I appreciate any comments you have that will help me in my endevour and I will do my. Eat to answer any questions that may arise. Thank You for your support.
