I have been thinking about what kinds of things we can do as a family, on a limited budget, this summer. Last year we were able to go to Camelback Lodge and enjoy all sorts of activities including an indoor and outdoor water park. This year I want to scale back a bit and work on getting our budget back on track after a year of excessive spending.
My little ones aren't huge fans of walking, although we did hit a lot of state parks in the summer of 2015. I am hoping to do that again but make it less about "walking/hiking" and more about exploration. When we went to the parks previously my husband was intent on visiting two parks a day and seeing as much as possible in a shorter time span. We left early morning, drove 1-3 hours to what ever parks we were visiting, then home in the same day so we were limited on time. I am hoping that this time around we can do more than just walk and see. I want to experience more and have my children do the same. We did have a lot of fun on the previous trips but the little ones got tired quickly and were cranky by the end of the second hike. One day we all hiked approx. 12 miles. That is a lot for a 5 and 8 year old. To be fair tho the 5 year old was on daddy's shoulders most of the time. At any rate I came up with a Scavenger Hunt printable to share with everyone. There is a place to write the park name and date so that it's a little something to remember the trip. I plan on letting each child have a camera to record their findings. That way I don't have bags of things that need to be tossed out later and we aren't taking anything out of the environment. Some items are things and others are activities. After the trip each child will have pictures and checklists from each park to make a little scrapbook with. I feel like the memories are better than souvenirs any day. The items on this list are popular in New York State because that is where we live but you can make one up for your particular area if these don't match up with things in your area. It's great to experience nature when you can in an world of the forever "Plugged In". Enjoy!!!

I have been a Relay for Life team captain for a few years now and I like to contribute in any way my talents allow. I currently have two other teammates and we have been collecting donations for an upcoming auction to benefit Relay. Since I love to draw, paint, crochet and sew; I'm trying to put together things that I can make with these talents. Below are some of these things. I want to encourage everyone to use the talents God has given you. So much I have found that with daily responsibilities I have a difficult time including these. I get so lost in daily tasks I have forgotten how satisfying it is to create. Doing it for a cause makes me carve the time out from my schedule. It gives me a reason to do it.
Please make time to do things you love. Life gets monotonous quickly if you don't. There's so much to be thankful for, your talents are big ones. I would love to see pictures of you enjoying your talents 😁. Post in comments if you like to share. |
